The Environment

One of the distinguishing features of a Reggio Emilia school is the care that is taken to create a beautiful and warm environment. The physical environment receives much attention and supports exchange and relationships through physical qualities of transparency, reflectiveness, openness, harmony, softness, and light. An atmosphere of playfulness and joy pervades.

Teachers organize environments rich in possibilities and provocations that invite the children to undertake extended exploration and problem solving, often in small groups, where cooperation and disputation mingle pleasurably.
