At Tender Roots, we take the child’s natural sleep pattern seriously. We believe it is important for your child to stay on his or her sleep schedule and to slowly adjust to school life. We want your child’s first experience to school to be pleasant and for you to be supported in doing what you feel is best for your child. This is why we have an open door policy at Tender Roots. You and your child may come and go as you need, between 9am-12pm. The basics of the daily schedule remains the same each day.
9:00-9:30 Outside Time/Playground
9:30-10:00 Free Exploration/Classrooms
10:00-10:15 Morning Meeting
10:15-11:00 Snack and Studio Work Time
11:00-11:30 Movement Time
11:30-12:00 Outside Time/Playground
If the weather is nice, we start our day on the playground.
Free Exploration is a time for children to move freely through the school. They explore our main classroom, library, construction room, and light room.
When we come together for our morning meeting, it is a time to stop and recognize each other. The children learn the beginnings of basic communication skills. They also learn to use their voice and body as we share familiar songs that incorporate movement. Our meetings have a relaxed flow. This allows children to participate as they are ready.
After our morning meeting, we enter our Studio for snack and work time. Snack is provided, and served family style. The children then have time to be engaged with materials for a long period of time, while under the guidance of the teacher and their parents/caregivers.
Movement Time is a time to practice large motor skills. The children might catch bubbles, drum, march, dance, or “shake their sillies” out on a balance board.
We end our day, as we started, on our playground.
